How much life insurance do you need?
An estimator tool plus explanation of each input: coverage period, liabilities, schooling and current protections.
Standard approach: add everything your earnings would have paid for, then remove protections already in place. Precision is not the goal; amounts are sold in increments, with the aim being a value that would support your household during critical times.
Coverage estimate
Quick estimate: (paycheck × coverage span) + current liabilities + schooling costs − what you are already protected for, rounded to $5K. This is just a ballpark figure.
Why those inputs
Length of coverage. Financial professionals usually recommend 10–20 years of wage cover; your situation dictates whether the lower or higher end works best. Households in Monrovia with young ones typically lean toward longer because housing, childcare and school bills overlap during high-cost years.
Obligations. Home loans are typically the top financial responsibility. If your payout clears the loan, your survivors have options rather than being tied down by loan payments.
Tuition expenses. Budget a ballpark year amount per child in current-day dollars. Setting aside something now beats needing extra coverage down the road.
Current coverage. Count available cash and employer-provided protection. Employer plans cease upon leaving the job, so count only what would definitely remain accessible.
