Health classes explained

Rate brackets from Preferred Plus through Standard and how applicants move through the system.

Pricing uses health classifications. Terminology shifts between firms, but the progression stays the same: Preferred Plus (sometimes Elite), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, plus adjustments for elevated risk. Nicotine users get their own set with larger charges.

What underwriters look at

Body shape metrics, BP and cholesterol, relative cardiovascular or tumor history before 60, auto record, medicine background, employment and hobbies, plus cigarette/nicotine habits. Top classification needs strong showings almost everywhere; next level permits a gap or two; lower categories OK with managed issues like controlled blood pressure.

How to use the quote tool

Your health info should be truthful: Excellent aligns with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus and Average with Standard. The company verifies placement after review. In doubt? Get rates for both to see the difference, and let underwriting finalize. Optimistic answers do not lower your premium; they just make the quote misleading.

Matching the right company sometimes counts more than the rate itself. Susman Insurance Agency recognizes which firms are receptive to different health circumstances, frequently more important than a low starting quote.
